The National Skills Academy for Social Care, which will be established in March 2009, is seeking to appoint its first Director. The Academy is a key driver in the transformation of social care – working to make ‘Putting People First’ a reality.
Our purpose is to identify, celebrate, endorse and promote excellence in skills development, learning support and training practice in social care in England. We will help to develop the skills of all adult social care staff including leaders, managers, care workers and trainers in the private, voluntary or statutory sectors. Through a range of integrated initiatives, we will provide skills and development information and practical support which is easily accessible to employers - large and small – and the growing numbers of personal budget holders who operate in this arena.
Reporting to the Board, which is employer led, the director will provide active leadership, shape strategy, and work collaboratively with a range of skills and social care bodies. A charity and limited company, initially the Academy will be hosted by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), you will ensure the organisation is established on sound business principles .
Whatever your background, you will understand the issues faced by businesses in the sector and likely barriers to training and development. You may be running an independent or voluntary care business, operating at national or regional level or have a vocational training background – but above all you will be passionate about identifying excellence, improving skills, and ultimately outcomes, for people who use care services.
