08 July 2009

The National Skills Academy for Social Care was proud to be involved in this year’s Health and Social Care Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 8th July. The awards are run in partnership between the Department of Health and the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and provide an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the excellence and innovation in frontline Health and Social Care. The Skills Academy co-endorsed the Leadership for Improvement award, which was won by the Stroke Northumbria Network, for their innovative approach to integrated stroke care that works across acute, primary and social care.

The team accredits their success to effective leadership and collaboration, concepts that are at the heart of the Skills Academy’s work in transforming the quality and quantity of qualified workers in the sector.

As an employer-led organisation, the Skills Academy will work with its partners to encourage, support, promote and celebrate excellence in training, learning and working. It will target learning and training support practice to the 1.5 million workers and the 35,000 employers in the care sector.

Liz McSheehy, the Director of the Skills Academy, said: “It was uplifting to see so many finalists at the awards representing the very best in the provision of adult social care. The Skills Academy aims to raise the volume of the great work that is happening in the sector and, through the provision of learning and training support, raise the profile and ambitions of the workforce, so that care services continue to aspire to excellence.”

The Skills Academy offers it warmest congratulations to all the finalists and winners on the evening and looks forward to supporting the Health and Social Care Awards next year.
