The National Skills Academy welcomes the Government’s Green Paper on the reform of adult care and support

14 July 2009

The National Skills Academy for Social Care welcomes the Government’s Green Paper on adult care announced today by the Secretary of State for Health. Andy Burnham.

The Paper sets out the Government’s proposals to reform the adult care and support system. It comes at a time when England’s care services are facing the challenges of a rapidly ageing population and increasing numbers of people living with a disability or long-term condition.

Liz McSheehy, Director of the National Skills Academy for Social Care says “The Skills Academy welcomes the Green Paper and looks forward to the results of the subsequent consultation. As an employer-led body, the Skills Academy has a key role in the delivery of a reformed care and support system, through the development of a quality workforce; we will work to transform the quality and quantity of qualified workers that meet the aspirations of everyone who needs care.

It is clear that the adult social care sector faces some complex challenges, but the Green Paper will enable people to have their say on the future focus and development of the care system and make it fit for the 21st century.”
